A few days ago we had been discussing about Virgin Media Business‘s exciting competition, that was all set to introduce three game changing innovations, combining technology and brilliant thoughts, for building a better future. Well, the winners have been chosen and here we have those incredible ventures for you to read through.
The Three New Things were unveiled at a special event which took place at the British Film Museum on 12th March, 2014. Among multiple contenders the three chosen ideas were:
a) Free solar powered charging stations for people with no access to electricity
b) Satellites that are 3D printable in space
c) Customized 3D printed footwear
So first, let’s us take a walk through the solar energy plan that has been devised to help the not so fortunate. Buffalo Grid, one of the winners, has made it a point to provide African entrepreneurs cost free mobile phone charging systems, who reside in areas with no such resources. The machines would utilize solar energy providing the much necessary juice for powering their phones, thus helping in communication. This project aims at providing connectivity for millions, thus supporting and promoting progress of rural and developing areas. The intriguing idea could also be networked similarly for bringing other necessities to the people
The next promising idea shows how miniature satellites or CubeSats, used for space research, can be built at 75% less cost using a revolutionary material that is suitable for space use. With current price standing at $2500,it is indeed something to look forward to.This proposition also happens to include direct 3D printing of the satellites in space [within a space station or any craft],leading to the theory of again drastically reducing satellite launching costs while opening doors for substantial growth for space research programs.
The third entry which also won the most audience votes is called Three Over Seven and revolves around the idea of letting people have their own fitted shoes. The process requires you to scan your feet with your phone, then sending it over to get your own 3D printed pair by the next day. This project has been said to be the very first of its kind that would be worked upon and implemented, for one and all to enjoy their very own foot wear.
Although it’s hard to grasp but when technology and mind blowing thoughts collide, you are sure to experience breathtaking concepts emerge, take flight and eventually realize into reality.
Here’s a peek at what the judges had to say about this extraordinary event.
